The Gutter Press is a risograph printing studio based in Edinburgh. It was founded
by designer Sarah Bissell and is based in Murieston Lane studios in the West End. Sarah has a Masters in Illustration from Edinburgh College of Art and has worked with a variety of clients. She was previously a professional screenprinter and has worked with a mixture of production processes at various studios before deciding to focus on setting up her own. Her style tends to focus on colour and texture predominately using with a range of subject matter. However she can work in a range of styles depending on the job at hand.
As well as printing riso artwork for our many clients, we also create our own prints and products which can be found in a range of shops and also online at the links below.

The main appeal of risograph printing is it uses environmentally friendly soy inks as well as banana paper to burn masters onto. We also use recycled paper with all of our printing as eco-responsibility is important to us.
While the printer is limited by the amount of colours it has (ours has seven), those colours tend to be particularly vivid and fluorescent colours are available which aren’t achievable with most digital printers. There is something challenging but freeing about having a limited colour palette and layering colours leads to some exciting results. Once you have a go you'll be hooked so drop us an email about your next project.
